About Us, and Why Blog?

Hi friends,

We are a family of three: Footie #1 (Gary) runs Footie's Gardens and Landscapes, with the help of Footie #2 (Son). Footie #3 (Jillian) is a PhD student at Penn State; she participates in Footie's landscaping projects as enthusiastic cheerleader only.

We have lived in the State College area since 2017. Our family's move to Pennsylvania brought us many great opportunities, including this one--the chance for Gary to do what he loves most: working outside, planting things, caring for the local environment, and making things beautiful.

One of the primary goals of this blog is to document some of the projects we carry out on our own property. In 2018, we bought some land in the beautiful farmlands just outside State College. The land was (and to a certain extent, still is) densely forested. We are building our own gardens and landscape from scratch!

Second, left: Our garage and front "lawn," as trees were being removed. Plus our trusty watchdogs. Right: Gary and his favorite John Deere tractor return from a successful rock-finding expedition. Our land is full of rocks; Gary will use some of them to build islands and a rock garden.
